I create oil paintings of women expressing emotion through their bodies in nature inspired environments, featuring the influence of pole dance. My inspiration begins with the ruthless honesty of excavating my own emotional experience, then creating authentic imagery to illustrate that state of being. We as women learn to cut ourselves off from our body’s sensations at a very young age to protect ourselves from shame, persecution, and harm. My work provides imagery for the various emotional states women experience upon returning to their physical body through grounding, catharsis, and movement.

In my work, you will find bright colors and other worldly glows that emphasize the energetic fields inhabiting our internal and external perceptions. I honor the nuances that are often ignored, hidden, or commonly overlooked by bringing them forward with robust and dramatic imagery. Pole dance has been an incredibly impactful aid in reconnecting with my physical being and learning expression through movement. For this reason, much of my work incorporates pole dancers. To ensure the message behind my work is thorough and universal, I interview other pole dancers of various backgrounds and demographics to be models for some of my work. Each dancer tells their story in their own words and provides an image of themselves for me to use as a reference. The remaining paintings are modeled by me personally. Each piece is created to start conversations about vulnerable and isolating experiences, building trust and community through authenticity.
